Weekend Unplugged: Cleveland/Helen, Georgia

Spur of the moment and completely out of character for us we decided we needed to unplug from the World this weekend. We loaded up the car before daylight on Saturday morning and hit the road heading North, final destination Cleveland/Helen, Georgia. I lump these two together because in my mind it would be ridiculous to visit one and not the other simultaneously.

Well hello, I have been silent and I think I owe you an explanation.

Cue explanation...

Surprise! Remember my last Stitch Fix review? You know the one I might have mentioned how the dress Janelle picked out for me made me look pregnant? Well...I was! And I had no idea. Sorry Janelle.

I am currently almost 11 weeks pregnant, and I have been SO SICK. Like literally so sick that you clearly haven't heard from me in a month. Like 24 hours a day sick. Morning sickness does not equal just mornings for those that don't know. Anywho, I was sick when I was pregnant with mini d and I got better around 14ish weeks. Let's all say a little prayer that's the case this time.

I need to go back to dry heaving my breakfast (you're welcome for the visual), so I hope to be back again soon with lots of baby updates. Oh and some Stitch Fix updates, maternity style. Oh and Disney, of course!

Much Love,

Stitch Fix #6, A Review

I've noticed something in my old age (late 20something), QUALITY MATTERS. There was a time when I could walk in to TJMaxx or Forever21 and stock up on $9.99 clothing. Trends that lasted about a week, and then you were moving on to the next thing. That just doesn't work anymore. Quality matters, and I need pieces in my closet that are prepared to stand the test of time, and motherhood, and work, and whatever else my crazy hectic life throws at them.

If you have followed my blog for any length of time you know I LOVE Stitch Fix and the services that they offer. We live in the middle of NOWHERE, and to get to any decent shopping it's at least a 45 minute drive one way. We stay so busy that shopping is nearly impossible. Stitch Fix delivers quality clothing right to my doorstep. I can try the clothes on in the comfort of my own home with the clothing pieces I already own. Not to mention you get your own stylist, which is pretty awesome and something this mommy on a budget couldn't normally afford without a service like this.

So what is it?

Disney Update: Spring/Summer 2016

We are quickly approaching our Spring 2016 Disney trip!!

I've been over-planning and researching like crazy, per usual.

That being said, I thought I would compile a list of updates for Spring 2016 for you!

My New Makeup Obsession

Sometimes change is good. I hate to admit this but I have been wearing the same brand of makeup since the 7th grade, which happens to be the first time I EVER used makeup. Bare Minerals has been my go-to forever. I don't like thick/cakey makeup. When mini d watches me put on my makeup my mantra is always {we are enhancing what God gave us, not covering it up}.

As I have been getting older and well, aging, I have noticed that my face is changing. Makeup doesn't look the same on me as it used to. I NEED to bring youth back to my face. I'm only 26 for heaven's sake! I had all but given up until a Mommy friend of mine started selling Younique makeup.

Adventures in Homesteading - The Chicks

I grew up on a farm in South Alabama, but I can assure you that despite all of the attempts from my parents I was as far from a farm girl as you could get. As an adult I have found a love and appreciation in being able to grow our own food and self-sustain our family as much as possible. This has led us on an interesting journey to say the least. We live in a rural area with plenty of room to spread out. For the past few years we have planted a pretty substantial garden. This year we decided to add to the mix. Introducing our nine newest babies....

How to: Work a Credit Card to Make Money

Disclaimer: This blog post is only for the ULTRA-DISCIPLINED.

If you are currently trying to pay off your credit card debt this is probably not a good suggestion for you. If you don't think you can control your spending, again, this is probably not for you. And finally, if you haven't set a budget and know where every penny of your money is going this is probably not for you either.

BUT, if you don't have credit card debt and have been working well with your spending and keeping that within your pre-determined budget this may be a way for you to protect yourself from fraud and identity theft while making a little extra money. Here's how...

Stitch Fix: # 5, A Review

Ok so here's the deal. Before having a child I LOVED shopping. I loved scouring through thrift stores and department stores searching for the perfect piece of clothing at a steal of a price. Shopping was therapeutic and relaxing. Now fast forward a few years. I would rather go to the Dentist than try to shop with a toddler.

Let me just give you a peak in to my shopping attempts with my toddler...

Mommy, can we bring the stroller?
Sure, if you will actually sit in it.
Can I bring my baby? Yes.
Walks in store.
Mommy, I don't want to sit in the stroller. Climbs out of stroller. Throws baby on ground because apparently baby also hates the stroller.
Mommy, carry me.
No, please sit in the stroller.
Begin meltdown #1.
Laying in the floor screaming.
Try not to respond to meltdown. Everyone is staring at you.
Pick toddler up and put her in stroller with a warning.
Toddler sneaks out of stroller and starts running.
Chase after toddler while pulling the stroller and trying not to forget baby or lose your purse or your mind.
Toddler crawls in clothing rack.
Attempt to pull child from under clothing rack. Toddler grasps on to clothing rack as if their life depended on it and starts screaming like you are a kidnapper.
Yank child from clothing rack, grab the stroller, who cares where baby doll went.
Out the door to the car because God forbid you discipline your child in public and have DHR called on you.
When you finally make it to the car you vow to never step foot in a store again.

This is my life. Real life. This is why I Stitch Fix.

The Wedding Ring

You've seen it on social media a million times. Someone gets engaged and within minutes there is a picture of the ring. I was listening to the radio on my way to work the other morning and they were having a discussion about wedding/engagement rings. The host of the morning show was considering buying his fiance a larger, more expensive, engagement ring because she seemed to be embarrassed by the size and appearance of her current ring. I sat and listened to woman after woman call in and encourage him to get her a bigger and better ring. Why? Apparently women sit around and compare rings. Most of the callers also mentioned that they would judge a woman based on her ring. That they make inferences regarding the man from the ring he selects for the woman.

Family Chiropractic Care

Last week we signed on to begin our third year of chiropractic care. Wow it seems crazy to say that. Rewind a few years and I thought chiropractic care was only for old guys with back problems, no offense Dad.

I stumbled across chiropractic while researching ways to help Daddy d with his miserable allergies. He has always had allergies and he was unable to get relief from numerous prescriptions, weekly shots, or over the counter medication. I ran across a wellness and family centered chiropractic office about an hour from our house and began doing a little research. Who knew these places existed?! This place wasn't your standard stuffy, white coat, doctor's office. Our Chiropractor, Dr. Jessica, runs her office out of a renovated old home. Her practice is professional, but not stuffy. She doesn't walk around wearing a white coat, but I can guarantee you she is certified and knows what she is doing.

{Potty Teaching} - Updated

If you'll remember, we started our journey in to {potty teaching} many moons ago...

Read about that here: Potty "Teaching" 101: The Beginning

We let mini d lead the way and over the next six months she used the potty when she felt like it, basically. If people asked I would always say she was about 60% there. If she needed to go #2 she ALWAYS wanted her pull-up on, I feel like that was one of our biggest hurdles. AND if we were out and about you could pretty much guarantee she wasn't going to use a public restroom, although she would ask to go about a million times. ESPECIALLY if we were out to dinner.

Recipe Alert: Ooey Gooey Breakfast Ring

So, my family has come to expect me to cook breakfast on the weekends. I mean, who are these people?! Since when is cereal 7 days a week not good enough. Just kidding...

Breakfast is my FAVORITE meal of the day. I think I may have mentioned that once or twice. Sometimes I get bogged down in a pigs in a blanket / sausage casserole routine rut. That being said, I've been on the hunt for delicious breakfast ideas over the last month. Sometimes you have to actually dig through your cookbooks {or Pinterest} to find recipes you already know you love, but somehow you have forgotten about. This happens to me ALL THE TIME. I will cook something, and we will all love it. I even go to the trouble to add the recipe to my books, and then it's forgotten. If you'll remember we dug up some delicious Banana Nut Bread and Blueberry Muffin recipes earlier in January.

This weekend I found this little gem...

New Look?!

Ok so I may have gone in to total freak-out mode when I pulled up my blog this morning and realized the layout had gone completely haywire.

You see, I don't really understand computer/techish things and last July for my birthday when my Mother asked me what I wanted I requested a custom blog layout and installation. Yes, I am nearing 30 and still getting birthday presents from my Mother. Anyway, the layout I chose was nice enough and they did the entire install for me. I think my mind was blown when I realized how much people usually pay for their blog layout. We are talking hundreds of dollars.

Stitch Fix: # 4, A Review

Christmas has come and gone, and life has started to slow down {kind of, not really}. Is it just me or is January like the longest, most boring month of the year?! SERIOUSLY. It gets dark at 4:00 pm, it's frigid cold, AND it has been raining every other day. I'm so not a Winter person, sorry not sorry.

Anyway, I think it's clear I needed a little retail therapy to lift my spirits, or you know some random excuse to get a surprise in the mail all for me! With that said, my FOURTH Stitch Fix has arrived!

Recipe Alert: Easy Peasy Blueberry Muffins

This is one of my easiest, and most popular breakfast recipes! These blueberry muffins are on constant request. They have just enough sweet without being over-powering. Daddy D isn't a huge fan of sweets, especially not for breakfast, but he LOVES these muffins.

DIY Farmhouse Sign

We got a little crafty over the weekend! I know I'm not alone when I say I have been absolutely drooling over every single thing Chip and Joanna Gaines touch. If you have been living under a rock they are the hosts of HGTV's show Fixer Upper. Just the best show ever.

Their style is the perfect mix of vintage, rustic, and chic. I can't seem to get enough of them! I'm constantly trying to figure out ways to DIY inspiration from their designs in to our quaint little farmhouse. Thus, this idea was born!

Recipe Alert: Easy Peasy Banana Nut Bread

Toddler's are unpredictable little creatures. One minute they love something, and the next minute they don't want anything to do with it. Take bananas for instance, two weeks ago mini d couldn't get enough bananas. Last week she wouldn't touch a banana with a ten foot pole. This left me with some over-ripe bananas that I wasn't about to throw out!

If you have been on the hunt for a tried and true banana nut bread recipe that's quick and easy to make you have come to the right place.

Warning: This banana nut bread will melt in your mouth and become extremely addicting.

Why we don't say {Terrible} Two's...

If you are a parent of a toddler I know you have heard it a million times. You've probably heard it from friends, from family, and even from total strangers. Your kid turns the magic number TWO and all of a sudden they are slapped with a label, {terrible} two's.

The words make me cringe. I mean, you realize you just called my child terrible? You may as well have said, "hey, your kid is a maniac that no one wants to be around and your parenting sucks."

Walt Disney World, Which Park to Skip?

Skip a park? What is this nonsense I speak of?

We are in the double day digits in our Walt Disney World 2016 Vacay Countdown! It's only been 3 months since we were there last, but it seems like FOREVER. You know I've already been planning like crazy. We will be staying for six nights this time, and spending a total of five days in the parks.

Soooooo the math sounds easy right?

We won't be going to any water parks because it will still be a little cool, and mini d can't swim yet. Not to mention the resort pools are {awesome}. This leaves us with four parks.
